At the half, UCLA 14 – Oregon 14
On the second offensive play of the game, Keanon Lowe put the ball on the turf for the Ducks and UCLA recovered at Oregon’s 38-yard line. 8 plays later, Hundley got the Bruins on the board with a touchdown run from four yards out, giving UCLA a 7-0 lead.
UCLA looked to have stopped Oregon on the next drive, forcing a 4th-and-long, after an Anthony Barr sack, but the Ducks took a gamble with a fake punt-run and linebacker Rodney Hardrick found some space for a 66-yard run down to the UCLA 8-yard line. Two plays later, De’Anthony Thomas pounded it in from 1-yard out and after the extra point, the game was knotted at 7-7.
Oregon looked poised to pull away as they have so many times before, after Byron Marshall broke free for a 40-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter, making it 14-7, but failed to add to their lead on the next drive, failing to convert on 4th down inside the red zone.
UCLA drove down the field and looked set to get back on the board, but Hundley was picked off by Oregon ILB Boseko Lokombo at the Oregon 13. But the Bruins’s blocked Maldonado’s punt, after the Ducks were unable to capitalize on the turnover, and started their drive at the Ducks’ 28.
A few plays later, Hundley found tight end, Thomas Duarte from 11 yards out to tie things up.
Oregon was unable to add three before the half when Maldonado missed a 37-yarder wide-right and headed to the locker room locked at 14.
