Eugene, Ore.– While Chip Kelly departs for the NFL, former offensive coordinator Mark Helfrich has been named Oregon’s 32nd head coach. The announcement was made by the Athletic Department on January 20th after much speculation that Helfrich would take over the position.Helfrich was born in Medford, Ore. and graduated from Marshfield High School in Coos Bay. He attended Southern Oregon University. Helfrich is the second Oregon native to head the football program. John Warren was the first in 1942.
