In the past week, there have been four cases of the flu confirmed on the U of O campus.
UO student Brittnay Nguyen gets the flu shot every year, even though she knows she will feel under the weather for a couple of days. She says, “It’s worth getting sick for two days rather than two weeks.”
Lead Nurse Dylan Blanks gives some sound advice regarding the vaccine. She says, “No vaccine is ever going to give you one hundred percent immunity, but sixty percent is better than zero percent.”
The Health Center encourages students to come in and receive this season’s flu shot but also suggests a few simple steps to stay healthy and keep the flu at bay.
Remember to use the “Duckwing”, which is the inside right angle of your arm, while coughing. If you are sick, don’t go to class and risk spreading the cold. Also wash hands often and carry hand sanitizer with you.
