The Ducks rolled Tennessee by a final score of 59-14, marking the first non-conference loss for the Volunteers in the last 13 games.
The last regular season loss for Tennessee to a non SEC-team was vs. Oregon on September 11, 2010. Three years and a new quarterback later, Marcus Mariota threw for 456 yards and four touchdowns and completed 23 of 33 passes. Mariota was the first Duck to throw for more than 400 yards since Kellen Clemens did it in 2005.
Tennessee went up early but Oregon shook off the sloppy play rattled off 59 straight points en route to the victory.
The Ducks saw other impressive performances from Johnny Mundt, De’Anthony Thomas and Josh Huff. De’Anthony Thomas rushed for 86 yards and one touchdown and Josh Huff led the receiving corps 125 receiving yards. Johnny Mundt, who replaced Colt Lyerla, had five catches for 121 receiving yards to go with two touchdowns.
Mundt, the true freshman from Modesto, CA, stepped up after Lyerla’s absence, which Coach Mark Helfrich would only Lyerla missed the day due to “circumstances”. Offensive Coordinator Scott Frost said he didn’t hear Lyerla’s status until yesterday and the situation was completely handled by Helfrich.
Lyerla has missed practices this week due to a “stomach virus” and was one of six players who didn’t suit up.
