After confirming that Springfield, OR is the home of The Simpsons, creator Matt Groening backtracked on his previous claim. Springfield spokesman Niel Laudati joked that, “Family Guy would never do this!” She believes that the show possesses many smart writers who surely want as many Springfields as possible to think it’s their town that inspired the famous sitcom.
In salute to the nation’s capital, the shuttle Discovery took a spin around Washington D.C. on April 17th. It has been deemed the most traveled spaceship in history, after flying 149 million miles before retiring last year. Discovery travelled on the back of a 747 jet for its last flight.
If you don’t qualify for food stamps, the Pantry, a service provided by the Episcopal Campus Ministry house, is here to help. The Pantry allows students access to a variety of groceries free of charge with the presentation of a UO, LCC, or NCU student ID card. It is located on 1329 E. 19th Avenue, and has openings every two weeks throughout the term. The next food distribution will be May 9th from 4:30 – 6pm.
Researchers have recently confirmed that sleeping after you study benefits overall recollection of material. University of Oregon’s own Dr. Catrin Rode, a professor of psychology, agrees with these findings and offers students some other tips for studying, just in time for midterms. She notes that the most important study habit is to avoid cramming in one session. While the common habit of simply reviewing notes and slides is beneficial, Dr. Rode encourages actively testing yourself. “I encourage everyone to review less, and recall more,” she remarks. Add these tips to your study skills and your midterms will thank you.
