Eugene, Ore- Beginning July 1, the interest on subsidized Stafford loans will increase from 3.4% to 6.8%. The new increase will only affect new Stafford loans, and not loans that you already have.

The subsidized Stafford loan is a loan provided by the Government, for students who are in financial need.  The increase in interest could cost future students almost $1,000 more for them to pay off.
