The University of Oregon will unveil a new Student Veterans Center in the Erb Memorial Union Saturday, April 20. The center will be an area for veterans and members of the Family Student Association to gather and receive career counseling, along with other academic services. This fulfills the EMU’s original mission of being a center for student veterans.

“The whole thing is dedicated to World War Two veterans and all other veterans that have come along. There’s actually a plaque on the second floor that you can look at pretty close to the fishbowl,” Jonathan Brunton, co-director of the Veterans and Families Student Association said. “Most people know that’s what this was dedicated to.  It was to help veterans from World War Two transition better to college.”

All those who have served in the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and Coast Guard, as well as their families are welcome to make use of the new area.

Much of the funding for the center was provided through donations from Alan and Jean Pedersen, Lease Crutcher Lewis and Office World. The new center is located in the EMU, next to the UPS store. The official unveiling will begin with a ribbon cutting and take place from 1:30 to 3 p.m.
