Eugene, ORE – The University of Oregon has partnered with The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention in order to help defuse the high number of at-risk suicidal students. The program is focused on the UO freshman population and will provide a free online-screening program to help identify cases of anxiety, fear, and depression, along with any other signs that could lead to potential suicide. The partnership program begins this winter term and asks that any student with thoughts of suicide contact university counseling and the testing center for help. The UO is also providing training for faculty and staff in order to teach them how to better identify and care for at-risk students. Students are encouraged to attend a training session for suicide prevention on March 21st and can contact the Counseling center for more details.
