Eugene, Ore.
As the University of Oregon grows in popularity and demand, it seems that funding is an issue than never ceases. The School of Architecture and Allied Arts (A&AA) is looking for some extra funding for a new and unique plan of their own. Students in A&AA know it can be difficult to find living arrangements around the UO, so starting in 2014, the school will be starting a new project to design and build homes in West Eugene. The first step in students’ plans is to get permits from the city to start this substantial project. Students hope to design and construct 5 new homes in the area, on donated sights. A grant from the UO Meyer Fund for a Sustainable Environment started this idea and A&AA is looking for for more donated funds to build more sustainable homes for the Eugene community. Currently, the University of Oregon has 2 buildings that are over 80% sustainable (the Lillis Business Complex and the Ford Alumni Center). The UO has received awards for our work in sustainability, and this project would only further that reputation. For more information, visit oregonbilds.wordpress.com/studio-blog
