University Students Fish for Diversity

Fish

Eugene, Ore. – University of Oregon’s student population is full of diversity. Many students and representatives from the Residence Hall Association gathered for the event “Fishing for Diversity”.

Each student that participated was given a fish bowl that they filled with different color rocks. The rock colors represented things that a person may identify with. Categories of rocks included political views, sexual orientation, economic class, and ethnicity.

Natasha Moffit is the head of RHA’s events and activities. She says that students don’t even have to remember what each rock means, the fish bowls are just great visuals of how different we all are as individuals.

The LGBTQIA was also at the event. They spoke to students about the importance of not making assumptions about students based on what they may identify with.
