OAB In Search of Funds

Eugene, Ore.

The University of Oregon’s Athletic Band is known for playing rowdy music at football and basketball games. The band is there to keep high energy for the fans and players, and keep school spirit in the air. However, this year, the ASUO is threatening to cut the band’s budget. Last week, a public forum was held where students and parents brought argued why the OAB’s funding should not be cut. The OAB’s Drum Major, Daniel Hartley, brought to attention that OAB not only serves the athletic department, but other areas as well. Mr. Hartley hopes that if, as a student leader, he speaks up, others will follow. After the meeting, ASUO still decided to cut the OAB’s budget by 13.5%, hoping that other funded areas around campus, like the Athletic Department, will donate to the band. In 2 weeks, the budget cut will be re-evaluated and re-considered. Keep your eyes and ears open for more news concerning this budget cut.
